Abstract

Why Mirza Ghalib’s poetry is fresh even after almost two centuries? Much has been written on his classical as well as modern bent of mind. He has been called the last of the classicist and first of the modern Urdu poets. The present article deals with the problem that how having been inspired by the colonial modernity, he opted for traditional Ghazal. It tries to understand Ghalib by dividing him in his Self and his Persona.
